1. Gather what the AI needs
AI builds a better website from better information. Ten minutes here saves an hour of corrections later. Have these ready:
- What you do and for whom: your main services, the area you cover and your typical customer.
- Your contact details: phone, email, address or service area, and opening hours.
- Your logo and some real photos: your work, your team, your premises. Real photos beat stock photos every time.
- Proof: licence or registration numbers, memberships and real reviews (with permission to use them).
- One or two websites you like, so you can tell the AI the feel you're after.
2. Choose the right kind of builder
"AI website builder" covers quite different tools. Picking the right kind matters more than picking the brand.
| Kind of tool | Examples | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Template builders with AI | Wix, Squarespace | People who enjoy arranging pages themselves | The AI gets you started; you still do much of the arranging |
| AI app builders | Bolt, Lovable | Building software and web apps by chatting | More technical than a business website needs; usage-based pricing |
| WordPress | WordPress with a theme | Maximum flexibility, with skills or a developer | Plugins, updates and security are your job |
| AI builders for business websites | RBO Build and similar | A finished business website from a description, hosting included | Less hands-on control of every pixel |
Before you choose, check three things: whether hosting and HTTPS are included, whether you can connect your own domain, and whether you can download your website's files if you ever leave. We've written fair, side-by-side comparisons with Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, Bolt and Lovable.
3. Describe your business and answer the questions
Write a few plain sentences, the way you'd explain your business to a new customer. For example:
"A family-run electrician in Geelong and the Surf Coast. Homes and small shops: switchboard upgrades, lighting, EV chargers and safety checks. Most customers call for a quote. We've been going 15 years."
Good AI builders then ask questions before they build: what visitors should do first (call, book, send an enquiry), how the website should feel, which pages you need. Answer them; it's the quickest way to a website that sounds like you.
4. Check every page
AI is fast, but it can get details wrong, and you're responsible for what your website says. Before you publish, read every page and check:
- Facts: services, prices, areas, hours, phone number and email.
- Nothing made up: no invented reviews, awards, qualifications or statistics. Fake reviews can breach Australian Consumer Law, and customers can tell.
- Phones: most visitors arrive on a phone. Check it there, not only on a computer.
- The contact form: send yourself a test enquiry and make sure it arrives.
5. Connect your domain and publish
Your domain is your address, like yourbusiness.com.au. A .com.au costs roughly A$20 to A$25 a year to renew (first-year deals are often cheaper; compare renewal prices). To register one you need an ABN, ACN or an Australian trade mark. If you already own a domain, keep it: you connect it by adding a record where it's managed, and your email isn't affected.
Make sure your website has HTTPS (the padlock). Most AI builders set it up for you at no cost. Then publish. Want more detail on where your website lives? Read How to host a website in Australia.
6. Get found on Google
- Give each page a clear title and description that say what you do and where (for example "Electrician in Geelong | Smith Electrical").
- Set up your free Google Business Profile and link it to your website. For local businesses, it's often what people see first.
- Add your website to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Bing also feeds some AI assistants' answers.
- Keep it current. Out-of-date hours or services cost you calls.
What it costs in Australia
| Item | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| AI website builder, hosting included | Roughly A$20 to A$60 a month for one business website |
| .com.au domain | About A$20 to A$25 a year at renewal |
| HTTPS (padlock) | Usually included |
| Business email (e.g. you@yourbusiness.com.au) | Usually separate: a few dollars a month per mailbox |
| Having someone build it for you | From a few hundred dollars for a simple website to several thousand for a custom one |
Prices as at 2 October 2026; check each provider for current prices. RBO Build is A$19 a month for one website, or we'll build it for you. See pricing.
Mistakes to avoid
- Publishing the first draft. Read it all; the AI doesn't know your business like you do.
- Hiding the phone number. Put it at the top, and make it tappable on phones.
- Stock photos everywhere. Real photos of your work build more trust.
- Building it in someone else's name. Make sure the domain is registered to your business, and that you can get your files.
- Set and forget. A website with last year's prices does more harm than good.
